Jamaican Film ‘Threads of Us’ Brings Caribbean Cinema to Wilmington
Caribbean cinema is coming to Wilmington as the award-nominated Jamaican film Threads of Us: Stitching the Fabric of a Nation receives a special Delaware screening on Friday, August 28, 2026.
The screening will take place at The Screening Room at 1313, located at 1313 North Market Street in Wilmington, with the film scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
The event gives Delaware audiences a chance to experience Jamaican storytelling on the big screen during Jamaica’s Independence Month.
A Jamaican Story on the Big Screen
Set in Kingston, Threads of Us follows Danielle and Malcolm, two young Jamaicans navigating love, resilience, work, and hope while confronting the realities of life in modern Jamaica.
The film was written by Donisha Prendergast and directed by Mykal Cushnie. Both also serve as executive producers.
Prendergast is the granddaughter of reggae legends Bob Marley and Rita Marley, continuing a family legacy deeply connected to Jamaican culture.
The film stars Jamaican singer, songwriter, and actress Sevana as Danielle alongside Jamaican-Canadian actor Shomari Downer as Malcolm.
The supporting cast includes Owen “Blakka” Ellis, Simon “Vision” Alexander, Jo-Anne Williams, and Shawn Bryan.
Nine Caribbean Film Awards Nominations
Threads of Us has earned significant recognition in Caribbean cinema, receiving nine nominations at the 2026 Caribbean Film Awards and tying Homage for the most nominations.
The film also screened at the 2026 Essence Film Festival in New Orleans. Organizers of the Wilmington screening describe the appearance as the film’s U.S. premiere and say it received a nomination for Best Narrative Feature Film.
Now, Delaware audiences will have an opportunity to experience the film in Wilmington.
Special Q&A With Donisha Prendergast
Following the screening, writer and executive producer Donisha Prendergast will participate in a special question-and-answer session.
The Q&A gives attendees a chance to hear directly from Prendergast about the film and the stories behind its production.
The Wilmington screening is also supporting a cause beyond the theater. According to the event organizers, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Humanity Ova Vanity and its hurricane-recovery efforts in Petersfield, Westmoreland, Jamaica.
